Remedial massage is a much deeper form of massage than many other types as it works with muscular structures rather than soft tissues and so is very adept at addressing muscular tension and postural problems – ‘realigning’ the body.
Remedial massage is a modern treatment developed along similar lines to osteopathy and physiotherapy, involving joint manipulation, multi-directional muscle stretching and soft tissue release. This can help increase overall flexibility and release tension.
Increased local circulation and lymph drainage provided by the massage invigorates the bodily response – helping to improve recovery time from injury and illness and reduce inflammation and swelling.
Massage can reduce thickening of connective tissue, helping to release restrictions and treat problem areas. It can also free adhesions and improve muscle tone and balance which reduces the physical stress placed on the bones and restores range of motion to stiffened joints.
The relaxing nature of this massage also contributes some key psychological improvements such as a reduction in stress and improved mood / anxiety levels. These are promoted by the release of hormones such as serotonin, adrenaline and oxytocin which improve general mental outlook.
The most common uses of remedial massage include the treatment of: Soreness, Pulled & Injured Muscles, Frozen or Locked Muscles, ‘Knots’, Tight & Stiff Muscles, Reoccurring problems.
For remedial massage the initial consultation is highly detailed and will help to draw up a full, personalised, treatment plan.
